Student Chromebook Computer Policy
Requirements:
School-Purchased Chromebook: Carmel is not a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) school. All students are required to use a Chromebook purchased through the school, from a third-party vendor.
Google Management License: Each Chromebook must have a Google Management License installed to ensure proper security, management, and adherence to school policies.
Google Update Compliance: All Chromebooks must be capable of receiving the latest Google software and security patches. Failure to maintain managed updates may result in device restrictions.
Monitoring and Filtering: The school may monitor and filter network activity to ensure compliance with this policy and protect the safety and security of students.
Acceptable Use Policy:
Educational Purposes: The primary use of Chromebooks and network resources is for educational purposes. Students are expected to use technology to enhance their learning, complete assignments, and access educational materials.
Respectful and Ethical Behavior: Students must use technology respectfully and ethically. This includes:
Adhering to all school rules and policies
Avoiding inappropriate or harmful content
Respecting the privacy and property of others
Using technology responsibly and avoiding misuse or abuse
Catholic Identity: The use of technology must be consistent with the mission of Carmel Catholic High School. Students should use technology in a way that:
Supports their well-being by monitoring screen time to maximize physical and mental health.
Ethically encouraging positive digital citizenship
Demonstrates good stewardship of technology, understanding that it is a tool meant to serve the common good.
Device Care and Security:
Personal Responsibility: Students are responsible for the care and security of their Carmel Chromebooks. This includes preventing device damage, other than normal wear and tear.
Password Security: Students must use strong, unique passwords to protect their Chromebook accounts, and avoid unauthorized access. and sharing.
Reporting Issues: If a student experiences any problems with their Chromebook, they should report the issue to TSI immediately.
Device Loaners:
Loan Agreement: Students are required to sign a loan agreement upon receiving a loaner Chromebook from TSI. This agreement outlines the terms and conditions of the loaner, including the student's responsibility for the device.
Return Policy: Loaner Chromebooks must be returned to the school in the same condition as checked out.
Consequences of Policy Violations:
Restrictions: Violations may lead to restrictions on Chromebook use, including suspension of device privileges, Student Portal access, and Carmel Gmail access.
Disciplinary Action: Serious policy violations may result in disciplinary action, including detention, suspension, or expulsion.
By adhering to this Acceptable Use Policy, students contribute to a positive and productive learning environment that reflects the values and mission of Carmel Catholic High School.
